Need for Speed 3D (2014) Hollywood

No playing. This time we sit back and watch.

Genre:
Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller.

Review:
If Marvel turns their comic books into the movies and WWE with their men then why not EA. It was co-produced by EA with the other leading production houses. Nice move for the first step and well done overall. Nowadays I am not into the computer games, but I was playing when I was young and 'NFS Most Wanted ' is one of my favorites. No need to say any further that I was looking for this movie.

I thought the story will be borrowed straight from the game and move a level after another to the peak till the end commence. But what I saw was only the 5%, I mean only the introduction with lots of drama than what the title symbolizes. Because it is a business, a smart move by the production house. The idea is to split everything into at least for 4 to 5 movies in the series. Like what the final part of the Harry Potter's 'The Deathly Hallows' and The Twilight's 'Breaking Dawn' did. They are going to do it here from the very beginning, so don't expect like the Himalayas, especially if you are NFS MW freak.

Tobey Marshall, a custom car maker who is behind the loan payment takes up the street race challenge to make a few quick bucks. But the race ends in a tragedy and now he's locked behind the bars for someone else fault. After out of the prison he's raged to avenge. Now he needs a car, the faster one, so the story proceeds with his new adventures which involves cops pursuing him. But he set his mind that to make the real offender to pay for his crime. This road movie, which commence in New York and ends in San Francisco was told grandly.

No offense, but I did not like the lead guy, except him the rest were great. It is not fair to find defect in him to blame, actually he was good, but I expected someone good looking than him or existing young popular star from the industry. If you see in other franchises, in the middle of the movie series they replacing with industry's giant and I won't surprise if that happens in the future for this. In the game we are the protagonists and to see him in my position I kind of find uncomfortable. Maybe it could have happened same to me if the other guys were in his place. So it is not the lead guy, but he's not anywhere near to me is the issue. Lol.

‘‘The racers should race,
cops should eat donuts.’’

Overall movie is not one breathtaking entertainment. I liked the pieces of the movie, the scenes. There are a few great scenes that give excitement and pleasure. Commonly we see a computer hacker who hangs out with the movie's protagonist to assist in his expertise area. The same guy here was excellent who came up with extraordinary ideas, but not satisfied with what happens to him at the end. I could not believe this young and not-so-popular cast done the wonderful job. I don't know why I liked Imogen Poots a lot who even not had a best shot from the movie other than sticking out all the way through with the lead guy. Hopefully in a sequel she's going to expose her physical strength for the stunts. It must come or else no use of having her around.

The first movie in a movie series is always very important and I don't know why they did not go to complete the action-adventure pack with sufficient pace. To me the story was not pleased enough, but screen presentation with the game like the angle of the camera panning promised me to stick with it. There were no locations that are taken from the game except in one scene where the car jumps over the road. If you have played the game will know it what I am saying. The digital 3D was okay. What I learnt from this format is that only graphical movies either animated or live action are awesome to watch. The normal regular live shot movies are totally useless in digital 3D. In this movie the best effects came in those stunt sequences and rest were plain. So digital 3D is not that worth. The car movie that does not look like a where it belongs to. A decent one, hopefully the second movie could be what I am expecting. Better it should come up with something great or the franchise is going to fall in the pit. This movie is exclusively for youngsters and I see no reason for others to take interest on it. I mean the elders other than who is not interested in cars and races..

Save Your Legs! (2013) Australia

Game tour that turns into a spiritual journey.

Genre:
Comedy, Sport.

Alternate title:
Knocked for Six.

Tagline:
"One man's journey in another man's box."
"Life is a funny game."

Review:
Not so long ago I saw 'Backyard Ashes' and here another Aussie movie about the cricket. It was quite different which was actually based on the true story of the Australian club team called Abbotsford Anglers. Basically the script was altered to commercialize which originally set in the 2001, in this flick it is the present time. The Anglers travel to subcontinent for a tournament which is labelled as the toughest challenge for any international team in this game. Cricket meets Bollywood, in another way to say Celebrity Cricket League meets Big Bash League. So colorful movie, you will know from the poster itself. This time it is not strictly for those who know the game because cricket was the part of the story and much more elements in it to enjoy.

Teddy Brown, who is a hardcore cricket fan and as well the little master Sachin Tendulkar's. The interest grown in him since he was a teenager and dreamt to play one day for the national team. Now he's at the late 30s who still believes his dream and inspires from the legend Tendulkar, who is still playing in his 40. His teammate hints that they are quitting and moving forward in life. But he insists and bring them all together to tour India for a private tournament. So this trip, which turn into a spiritual journey that make him realize what he's holding has to go and move on in the life.

‘‘This is India.
We are all Sachin's brothers.’’

A treat for the movie fanatics who love cricket as well, especially the subcontinent fellows. The movie discloses the Indian colorful culture, defines the system of the native lifestyle and much more that inspires. Travelling in train and auto-rickshaws, foods, street market shopping, interacting with the people of the nation who are obsessed with the cricket, all these bring joy to watch. The clash between Aussie and Indian accents humors are really the highlight. If someone is not finding a way to blend in to have a nice occasion, then that must be pan-Americans. It is not them, it is the game the movie talks about which is too far fetch. But it is easy to enjoy like everyone else if they give a try. With a little Bollywood touch, it also exposes the musical side and ends with a fine track. The song was good which follows like this: I don't like Cricket. Oh, no! I love it. So far one of the best cricket and cultural exchange movie. Good for both these countries.

Gabrielle (2013) Canada

An innocent love story.

Genre:
Drama, Music, Romance.

Review:
French Canadian movie about a young woman with Williams syndrome. It was also the Canada's entry for the 86th American Academy Awards, but it did not find a place in the final nominee list. A great potential tale which speaks about an innocent love story that takes place in this cruel world.

22 year-old Gabrielle with Williams syndrome is good at music and one of the leading choirs who are preparing for a big event. She comes to know fellow choir member Martin and both fall in love. But, before the relationship going to be thicken get opposed by their parents. The reason won't convince them, so they decide to prove and that is the story this beautiful movie explores with great intensity.

‘‘I think it's great, everything you've done for your sister.
But you have to stop hiding behind her.’’

This is one of the awesome movie that I saw from the Canada. Unbelievable performances from the characters Gabrielle and Martin. This movie should have been at the Oscars, but the simplicity of the story might be the reason than the rest of the powerful execution for not making thus far. The real winners are these two lead characters, who made the movie into a splendid piece of art. It makes so sad for not widely noticed, could have been appreciated everywhere if it was a Hollywood product. So what I say is dub this movie and spread it because I don't want movie goer to miss this wonderful flick.

There are many things to learn from it, especially music was another highlight. Both, 'Ordinary' and 'The Passenger' tracks were my favorite. So two more songs to put into my movie song collection, though it was not composed specially for the movie, but I liked it. Anyway, a movie not to be missed if you like the dramas with emotionally appealing concepts.

Rob the Mob (2014) Hollywood

When mobs get robbed, what do you think the cops would do.

Genre:
Crime, Drama, Romance.

Tagline:
"True crime. True love. True story."

Review:
Based on the true story which resembles 'Bonnie and Clyde'. That's what everyone says and expressing their displeasure over this movie. But it's nothing wrong with a movie to inspire from the true event even it is similar to other stories. In this movie they gave right credit mentioning the notorious criminals couple Bonnie and Clyde. But the reason I went for it is the director of 'City Island' expecting something similar feast and it did not upset me. I absolutely enjoyed it.

A couple who rob shops for a living come clean after spending few years in a correctional facility. Still, they are together and working hard, but not enough earn to pay bills. Meanwhile, the famous ongoing trial of a criminal gang that rocked the States attracts them. So they plan to rob the mob and it stunts both the end, mobs and the cops. Soon the couple becomes the target to them and how the story resolve is the rest which explained effectively.

‘‘Guns and Wiseguys, is a bad mix.

There's no doubt, this movie is fine, but the only disadvantage is that if you have already saw 'Bonnie and Clyde' then this would interest you less. Both the stories are completely different, but by the couple it is comparable. The lead couples were very good, especially Nina Adriana and I think I saw best of her. Andy Garcia's show was missing. Being a powerful underworld kingpin, his character won't stand up to the standards of the title. When 'Bonnie and Clyde' meets 'Goodfellas', this is not what we anticipated, instead a crucial clash. In the end, I think it stood true to the real story, that is what all matters. I still feel it is a nice flick to give a try if you like the gangster theme.

Endless Love (2014) Hollywood

Fighting for the true love against the resistance.

Genre:
Drama, Romance.

Tagline:
"Say goodbye to innocence."

Review:
The newer version of the '81 movie, which both of them were the adaptation of a book of the same name. This type of story is a kind of outdated, but this movie was updated according to the present time. So there's no doubt to convince the teenage audience. Only the grown ups will try to find defects and say blah blah blah. It was a mini version of the movie 'The Notebook', but everything happens in a very much soon, like in one summer and expands a bit in the last quarter. This movie got all the substance that teen romance theme should have like strong bond, emotions, resistance and a tragic.

I don't know still how many Hollywood is going to make a teen love story about a rich or popular boy and a poor or nerd girl, sometimes vice versa comes together. Recently I saw 'The Spectacular Now' which was not too far from it, but anyway cast and the story varied distinctly. This was the story of David, on his high school graduation day he reveals his crush on a rich geek girl that he waited for this day. The opposite had attracted each other and she finds the same feeling about him in her. Now they got one whole summer in front of them before moving on a different path to higher education or taking a job. Like the father from 'Father of the Bride', the overprotective father of the girl opposes the idea. But it only makes the stronger the young relationship. Somehow it has to end when summer is over, so what happens after that is the remaining.

‘‘I found what you said inspiring.
And inspiration has been in short supply these days.’’

The pair was good together, you can call it a fine chemistry. With the decent performances, music and cinematography, it looked a perfect movie to watch with your female (male) companion at the weekends. It was not, wow! sayable kind of movie. If you forget yourself, you will get into the movie's deep. Other than that probably you may not like it if you have already seen the '81 movie. I believe everyone had not seen that, so this movie is for those people.

Gabriella Wilde was so beautiful like I saw her for the first time in 'The Three Musketers' with that classical European royal house costume. Perhaps a better movie for Alex Pettyfer so far in his career as a lead actor. Except these two, the father character played by Bruce Greenwood was great. Definitely not it is his greatest execution, but one of his for sure that helped the movie to shape well. Overall, the movie might not be close to the earlier version or the book, but certainly not a bad one. Since I have not watched the old and not read the book, I give a go for it for those who are looking for romance movies.
